Client interview: Malelions

At MODINT Credit & Finance, we like to let our customers speak for themselves. This time, we spoke with Thijs Offermeijer of Malelions, a Dutch fashion label that has developed into a well-known lifestyle brand over the past five years. Malelions is known for its mid/high-end fashion and accessories for men, women, and kids.

Malelions focuses its products on young, dynamic, and bold men, women, and juniors with a fresh passion for fashion. As a Dutch fashion label, Malelions offers a wide range of products, including t-shirts, hoodies, sportswear, swimwear, and accessories.

In addition, Malelions provides teamwear for beach clubs, restaurants, hospitality venues, and football clubs. “We now also have a padel collection, and we’re working on a ski and snowboard collection for winter sports, which will be launched at the end of the year,” says Thijs Offermeijer, owner and founder of Malelions.

“We believe in the transformative power of fashion. Fashion is about more than looking good; it’s about feeling confident and having the courage to chase your dreams. Everyone dreams of a successful and prosperous future, but only a select few have the drive to do what’s necessary to achieve it. At Malelions, we identify with this ambition and translate it into bold and inspiring products. The Malelions are leaders, always at the forefront in the pursuit of their goals.”

“We’ve redefined streetwear from an innovative, fresh perspective with depth and authenticity. Our collections reflect the passions and stories of our community. We create fashion that makes an impact, not only reflecting our values but also leaving a positive impression on both the industry and the world,” says Thijs.

Malelions | Navigate life with confidence

“Malelions is a creative collective formed by hardworking individuals. A shared vision and drive for creativity connect and unite us. Together, we inspire others to express themselves, embrace diversity, and overcome limitations. Together, we break boundaries and foster innovation.”

Thijs continues: “In addition, we’ve started a second label called *Croyez*, which I run together with my partner Arian Biemans. Croyez is a high-end streetwear brand offering unique clothing items that reflect our core values. Croyez believes in the unique strength of every individual, embraces pride and brotherhood, and spreads this sense of happiness through our products.”

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
“We’ve now been running Malelions for over five years. Before starting Malelions, I studied commercial economics at Fontys University, specializing in Digital Business Concepts, an innovation-oriented program focused on today’s commercial economy—think branding, trend forecasting, and so on,” Thijs explains his daily responsibilities. “My day consists of coaching managers and teams, overseeing the key aspects of major projects, and holding meetings with external partners, customers, or manufacturers. I’m also heavily involved in large branding activities and collaborations.”

How do you view the market you’re currently operating in?
“It’s very turbulent. There’s a lot of turnover and uncertainty among brands and retailers. Malelions has been incredibly successful since day one, and we continue to grow every year. However, across the fashion industry, we see it’s becoming increasingly challenging—margins are under pressure, there are frequent discounts, and so on. We always approach our customers from a commercial perspective, with collaboration as our key focus. However, we’ve noticed we now need to spend much more time on debtor management.

What challenges did you face before working with MODINT Credit & Finance?
“Essentially, it was a combination of all the tasks and solutions you offer. There were deficiencies in our general terms and conditions. We occasionally dealt with unpaid claims and even faced a customer bankruptcy.”

What does the collaboration with MODINT Credit & Finance look like?
“For me, it’s very healthy, highly transparent, and exceptionally pleasant. We’re super satisfied. We’re proactively kept informed about developments with our customers, and the people at MODINT Credit & Finance go that extra mile. I also have a good relationship with Jeroen (Leijser), and we’re in regular contact.”

How has MODINT Credit & Finance added value for you?
“Primarily by addressing problems early on. This often prevents issues and complications later. You’ve helped us optimize our general terms and conditions. In addition, we’ve covered all debtor risks with a MODINT industry policy. And the collection services you provide work excellently. The results are good, and ultimately we avoid having to write off receivables.”

What do you find special about MODINT Credit & Finance or their methods and approach?
“I particularly appreciate the pleasant collaboration. The personal approach and proactivity really appeal to me—you’re very transparent. I value the strong, direct communication.”

Where do you see your company and yourself in three to five years?
“We aim to grow more internationally and are working on expanding our product lines: a padel collection, ski collections, and smart casual wear. With Croyez, we’re focusing on significant growth in the Netherlands and slowly moving beyond borders. Behind the scenes, we’re also working on several other labels in fashion or related areas. So, in the coming years, our company will continue to grow in a healthy way.”
